Felipe Vargas - Editor
Felipe Vargas is a Writer / Director in the realm of boldly-original, heartfelt stories with a genre twist. Born in Colombia, Felipe's work is often inspired by Latin American mythologies and magical realism.
Felipe grew up with his grandmother's legends and campfire tales, where the stars were guardian angels and the woods were full of monsters. He's always been impassioned by horror films, flooding his parents' bathtub with fake blood and filming it with a camcorder or tying homemade prosthetics to his dog - his first movie monster. His love for the magical and macabre is shaped by an odd crossroad of Guillermo Del Toro and Terrence Malick, of magical realist Colombian literature and Weird Tales pulp magazines.
As a director, Felipe is attached to helm a horror-thriller feature for Paramount and Vertigo Entertainment based on a Hispanic folktale. Felipe recently directed a kids fantasy proof-of-concept trailer for Disney Channel about a Salvadorian family. He also directed a music video for acclaimed electronic artist San Holo - a love letter to Echo Park, LA.
As a writer, Felipe is Pilot Writer and Co-EP on a fantasy-adventure series based on Mexico's beloved LOTERÍA card game with TV legend Norman Lear's Act III Productions, Sony Pictures Television, and Amazon Freevee. Felipe is attached to write an unannounced animated family feature for Mattel Films based on a beloved IP. He is also currently writing an original horror-fantasy comic book series for Aftershock Media set in Brazil. Felipe is developing an original series set in Colombia with Boat Rocker Studios and author Ibram X. Kendi's Maroon Visions.
Felipe's work has garnered over 12 million views on YouTube. His work has been featured in over 100 film festivals including Oscar-qualifying festivals HollyShorts, Bogo Shorts, and Sitges. He's been awarded a DGA and Imagen Award.
